POEMS:
THERE IS AN OLD ADAGE by Wgh
MUCH TO THE ACCIDENT PRONE’S DISMAY
THAT IF WE DO NOT PLAN OUR COURSE AHEAD
ACCIDENTS WILL OFTEN FILL OUR WAY
THERE IS WISDOM IN THIS OLD SAYING
THAT IS HOW IT BECAME SUCH GENERAL LORE
FOR THOSE WHO TELL US HOW IT WAS BACK THEN
HAVE HAD THEIR SHARE OF ACCIDENTS BEFORE
TO BE FOREWARNED IS TO BE FOREARMED
THIS HAS BEEN VERY OFTEN SAID
AND WE MAY ALL LOSE TIME TO ACCIDENTS
IF WE FAIL TO TAKE TIME TO PLAN AHEAD
THOSE WHO WILL NOT LISTEN TO A WARNING
HAVE TO LEARN AS OTHERS HAVE LEARNED BEFORE
THAT ACCIDENTS HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO ARE UNPREPARED
THOSE WHO KNOW NEITHER THE GAME PLAN NOR THE SCORE
IT IS FAR BETTER TO LISTEN TO A WARNING
THAN TO HEAR THE SOUND OF A SIREN IN THE NIGHT
TO BE AN ACCIDENT VICTIM LOSING LIFE AND LIMB
JUST ANOTHER PITIFUL SIGHT.
SEEDS by Wgh
1) THOSE WHO NURTURE THE SEEDS OF SAFETY REAP THE MOST SUCCESS.
2) PLANTING THE SEEDS OF SAFETY LEADS TO THE GROWTH OF AN ACCIDENT
FREE WORK SITE.
3) THE SEEDS OF MANY ACCIDENTS ARE SOWN WITH CARELESS ACTIONS.
4) LACK OF SAFETY PLANNING LEADS TO A BAD CROP OF ACCIDENTS.
5) SAFETY PLANNING TAKES TIME, BUT NOT AS MUCH TIME AS ACCIDENTS
ACCIDENTS HAPPEN DUE TO LACK OF FORESIGHT, WHICH SAFETY PLANNING CAN PREVENT
6) SAFETY MAY TAKE SOME TIME BUT ACCIDENTS TAKE SOME LIVES.
7) TIME SPENT INVESTIGATING ACCIDENTS COULD BE MORE PROFITABLY SPENT PLANNING AND INITIATING SAFETY PROCEDURES.
8) THOUGHTFUL ACTIONS PREVENT ACCIDENTAL RESULTS.
CONSEQUENCES
LIFE IS A PRECIOUS GIFT
TOO PRECIOUS TO BE LOST BY ACCIDENT
BUT LIVES ARE LOST BY CARELESS ACTIONS
NO MATTER IF INTENTIONS WERE WELL MEANT
BEING IN TOO MUCH OF A HURRY
TRYING HARD TO GET A JOB QUICKLY DONE
SOMETIMES RESULTS IN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES
ACCIDENTS OFTEN SEEM TO HAPPEN ON THE RUN
TAKING TIME TO PLAN AHEAD
MAY SEEM FAR TOO SLOW TO SOME
BUT IT TAKES MORE TIME IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS
TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES STILL TO COME
ALL ACCIDENTS HAVE UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCES
THEY ALWAYS RESULT IN LOSS OF TIME AND STRIFE
THEY MAY RESULT IN SOMETHING EVEN FAR MORE TRAGIC
THEY OFTEN END IN THE TAKING OF A LIFE
TAKING TIME TO READ THE SAFETY RULES
OR TAKING TIME TO ATTEND A SAFETY CLASS
OFTEN SAVES TIME AND OVER RULES CONSEQUENCE
WHEN LESS ACCIDENTS COME TO PASS
DON’T BE IN TOO BIG A RUSH IN LIFE
TAKE TIME FOR SAFETY ALL ALONG THE WAY
THE CONSEQUENCE YOU WILL FIND IN DOING SO
IS THAT SAFETY ALWAYS PAYS!
– by Bill G. Horsley
SAFETY
SAFETY IS A SUBJECT
THAT SHOULD BE DEAR TO EVERY HEART
AND THOSE WHO BELIEVE THAT SAFETY MATTERS
HAVE A FEW TIPS TO IMPART
FIRST IN THE MATTER OF SAFETY
IS THE THOUGHT THAT SAFETY DEPENDS ON YOU
IF YOU TAKE TIME TO THINK OF YOURSELF AND OTHERS
SAFE PRACTICES IN LIFE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH
TAKE SOME TIME TO THINK AHEAD
TRY TO PLAN FOR WHAT MIGHT JUST OCCUR
IF YOU LOOK AROUND FOR UNSAFE ITEMS OR PRACTICES
YOU’LL FIND THAT YOUR OWN SAFETY IS ENSURED
LOOK OUT FOR OTHERS AROUND YOU
HELP THEM TO KNOW THE SAFE WAY TO DO THE JOB
EVERY WORK PLACE SHOULD BE WELL ORDERED AND PLANNED
NOT LOOK LIKE SOME RUSHED AND UNRULY MOB
HAVE A PLAN FOR WHAT YOU DO
IN THE WORKPLACE AND IN DAILY LIFE
IF YOU PLAN AHEAD AND THINK ABOUT SAFETY
YOU WILL ENCOUNTER LESS PAIN AND STRIFE
JUST A LITTLE FORESIGHT AND PLANNING
WILL MAKE LIFE A LOT EASIER FOR EVERYONE
SAFETY IS A MATTER OF THINKING THROUGH THE PROCESS
TO GET THE JOB WELL AND SAFELY DONE.
– by Bill G. Horsley
SAFETY AND COMMON SENSE by Bill G. Horsley
Safety and common sense go together, you always need to think and plan ahead.
It is better to take time to be safe on the job, than to rush it through and wind up dead.
For every safety procedure there is a reason, someone has taken the time to think it through.
You need to take the time to follow safety procedure, or the next accident may be caused by you.
Safety is a matter of learning and of behavior, of taking the time to think and then to safely act
Ninety percent of accidents are caused by carelessness, that is an established safety fact
Good behavior is just a matter of learning, safe behavior comes from following the rules
Bad behavior leads to lack of safety and to accidents, from poor use of work practices and tools.
Safety depends on use of common sense, of following the rules and thinking ahead
Don’t be the one who causes the next accident, or the one who winds up dead!
LIFE VALUE – by Bill G. Horsley
Safety comes with an assessed cost, But it is always very much worth the price
For no one can count the value of a human life, Or the cost of a family’s sacrifice
If we lose anyone to unsafe practices, How can we ever truly count the total cost
To factor in the value of just one human life,Or somehow total up a family’s loss
What is the real value of a father lost, Or a sister, a mother, or perhaps a brother
We cannot place a true value upon a human life, Or what that life means to many others
How do we tell someone’s grieving family, That s beloved family member has lost their life
Just because someone was careless or in a hurry at work, Causing immeasurable pain and strife
Safety does come with a real price tag, But it always save immeasurable pain and strife
For no one has ever been truly able to valuate the cost, Or the value of just one human life.
ATTITUDES – by Bill G. Horsley
We live in a World filled with Danger
Speeding Cars, Machinery run Amok, and other Terrors
Yet the greatest Threat to our Safety is not from our tools
But from our own Loose Attitudes and unthinking Errors
Cars are a part of every modern Life
When used with Common Sense and some Skill
But add a Driver Intoxicated or Careless of Others
And you have a Device used to Maim and Kill
Every Piece of Machinery that is used
From Bulldozer, to Power Saw to Towering Crane
Is Harmless until it is in the hands of an unthinking User
Then it becomes a Tool of Destruction and Pain
The greatest Threat to anyone’s Safety
Is the Attitude of the Careless or the Know-it-All
For those who do not care about the Safety of Everyone
Are an immediate Threat to us all
An Attitude of Safety First for All
Needs to be developed and evident every day
If we are to prevent Accidents and Harm to Everyone
In each of Life’s quickly passing days.
LIFTING:
Sad Sam was a mighty man, who thought heavy lifting a breeze,
Until he heard a loud crack, from the middle of his back,
He forgot to lift with his knees. – by Bill G. Horsley
LADDER:
Sad Sam gave no thought, to any sort of safety matters.
Now he lies in a hospital bed, bandaged from toes to his head,
The result of falling off a ladder. – by Bill G. Horsley
DRIVING & TEXTING:
Sad Sam was driving fast, while texting on his phone
He came to a large curve, that caused him to swerve
Now Sam won’t be coming home– by Bill G. Horsley
SAFETY LAST:
Sad Sam was busy at work, with a job to be speedily completed
He was working so fast, that he placed safety last,
The whole safety system was defeated– by Bill G. Horsley
SAFETY CLASS:
Sad Sam slept through safety classes, he thought they were of no real use at all,
But he was badly burned, from lessons not learned,
Now he is a lesson to us all. – by Bill G. Horsley
NEVER SEEMED TO LEARN – by Bill G. Horsley
Sad Sam was upset, he didn’t know what hit his head
He walked casually under a ladder, them woke up in bed
Sad Sam was foolish, he never seemed to learn
That if you touch a hot stove, you’re sure to be burned
Sad Sam was a hard worker, he was never known to shirk
But he was often accidentally involved, and lost time at work.
Sad Sam could not identify daily hazards he had to face
Until he was a menace to everyone, in the whole workplace.
OSHA VISIT
We received a phone call earlier today, The soldiers of safety are coming our way
The call came through loud and clear, OSHA is now on their way over here
Workers are scurrying from front to back, While the boss is having a heart attack
He know that his job is really on the line, especially if we get a willful violation fine
A loose wire needs to be fastened tight, And housekeeping didn’t do their job last night
One fire extinguisher hasn’t been regularly checked, This place is beginning to look like a total wreck
One guy is off in the hospital anyhow, From catching his hand in a machine somehow
Someone misplaced some needed safety gear, No safety classes have been documented this year
The boss is screaming and yelling at everyone, To Hurry it up and to get the safety done
When OSHA shows up with credentials in hand, He knows that he will be marked man
OSHA will have a field day with all this mess, And all of us will know the strain and the stress
But we can’t catch up the safety violations now, We know that it is really far too late anyhow.
And the worst part of it is that we now know, This had to happened when we let safety practices go
If we had practiced safety procedure everyday, OSHA would have nothing but praise to say
Too late for now this lesson we have learned, When safety is lax, everyone gets burned.
ASSESSING THE PRICE OF SAFETY – by Bill G. Horsley
EVERYONE MUST CONSIDER COSTS
THAT WILL CERTAINLY ALWAYS BE A GIVEN
EVERY COMPANY AND EVERY TYPE OF ENDEAVOR
WILL ALWAYS BE COST DRIVEN
YET WHAT IS THE TRUE PRICE OF SAFETY
WHEN CONSIDERED AGAINST THE VALUE OF A LIFE
HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE LOSS OF A HUMAN BEING
AND THE RESULTANT PAIN AND STRIFE
IF THERE WAS A QUICK AND AN EASY WAY
TO MEASURE THE VALUE OF ANY PERSON’S LIFE
PERHAPS THE PRICE OF SAFETY COULD BE MEASURED
BUT HOW DO YOU COUNT THE VALUE OF A LIFE TO OTHERS
THE LIFE OF ONE BELOVED AND TREASURED
SAFETY WILL ALWAYS COME AT A PRICE
THE COST OF EDUCATION AND OF SAFETY RULES
BUT HOW CAN IT EVER BE SUCCESSFULLY MEASURED
AGAINST THE VALUE OF A LIFE LOST TO CARELESS USE OF TOOLS
THE PRICE OF SAFETY MUST BE A CONSIDERATION
ANOTHER COST TO BE FACTORED IN AND CAREFULLY ASSESSED
BUT UNTIL A REAL VALUE CAN EASILY BE PLACED ON ONE LIFE LOST
OPTING FOR SAFETY WILL ALWAYS BE BEST.
ELECTRIC OVERLOAD by Bill G. Horsley
SAFETY SAM FELT HE WAS MELTING, FROM THE HEAT OF THE HOT SUMMER SUN
HE THOUGHT COOL THOUGHTS BUT IT DIDN’T HELP, AS HE WONDERED JUST WHAT COULD BE DONE
HE DECIDED TO HOOK UP FANS IN SEQUENCE, AND PLUG THEM INTO AN OUTLET ON THE WALL
HE DIDN’T THINK ABOUT THE POSSIBLE OVERLOAD, IN FACT, HE DIDN’T REALLY THINK AT ALL
HE HEARD THE BOOM AND SAW THE SPARKS, AS THE OVERLOAD NEARLY LIT UP THE SKY
IN FACT, HE MANAGED TO TAKE OUT THE GRID, SERVING ALL THE OTHERS ANYWHERE NEARBY
SAFETY SAM WAS CATCHING SOME SERIOUS GRIEF, FROM NEIGHBORS, FIRE PERSONNEL, AND FRIENDS
UNTIL HE TOOK THEIR ADVICE TO HEART, AND GOT A LITTLE TOO LATE SMART
BUT HE NEVER CAUSED ANOTHER OVERLOAD AGAIN.
HEAT by Bill G. Horsley
TOOLS LEFT OUT IN THE SUN, ARE LIKE A ROAST DONE TO A TURN
USE YOUR GLOVES WHEN PICKING THEM UP, TO AVOID A SERIOUS BURN
YOU CAN’T AVOID HEAT IN SUMMER, BUT THERE ARE THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO
DRINK LOTS OF WATER TO AVOID DEHYDRATION, AND TAKE TIME FOR COOLING BREAKS TOO
WHERE EVER YOU ARE, WHAT EVER YOU DO, IN WINTER COLD OR IN THE SUMMER SUN
HAVING A SAFETY PLAN THAT IS WIDELY USED, WILL ALWAYS HELP YOU GET THE JOB SAFELY DONE
IF YOU MUST WORK IN THE SUMMER SUN, KNOW THAT HEATSTROKE CAN LAY YOU LOW
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER AND TAKE YOUR BREAKS, TO KEEP HEALTHY AS YOU ARE ON THE GO
THE SUMMER SUN IS VERY NICE, WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SUMMER TAN
BUT WHEN THE HEAT INDEX IS SOARING HIGH, IT CAN LAY LOW THE HARDIEST WORKING MAN
SUMMER HEAT CAN BE A SERIOUS THREAT, TO ANY WORKING WOMAN OR MAN
BE SURE TO TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT, WHEN DEVISING A SUMMER SAFETY PLAN
SAFETY SAVIOR by Bill G. Horsley
BAD BEHAVIOR ENCOMPASSES QUITE A LOT, FROM NOT THINKING AHEAD TO INTENTIONAL ACTS
BAD BEHAVIOR IS KNOWN TO CAUSE FREQUENT ACCIDENTS, THAT IS AN ESTABLISHED SAFETY FACT
WHETHER THE BEHAVIOR IS JUST HORSE PLAY, OR ACTS THAT LACK ALL PARTS OF COMMON SENSE
WHEN BAD BEHAVIOR IS EXHIBITED AT THE WORK SITE, ACCIDENTS ALWAYS COMMENCE
BAD BEHAVIOR COMES FROM A BAD ATTITUDE, FOR A BAD ATTITUDE ALWAYS CAUSES BAD BEHAVIOR
IT IS BETTER BY FAR TO TRY TO CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE, TO BECOME A SAFETY SAVIOR
IF NINETY PERCENT OF ALL ACCIDENTS, ARE CAUSED BY EXHIBITING BAD BEHAVIOR
THINK OF HOW MANY LIVES MIGHT BE SAVED, BY YOUR BECOMING A SAFETY SAVIOR
CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE TO CHANGE YOUR BEHAVIOR, BE A POSITIVE FORCE FOR SAFETY AND HELP TO SAVE A LIFE
BECOME A SAFETY SAVIOR IN THE HOME AND IN THE WORK PLACE, TO REDUCE ACCIDENTAL STRESS AND STRIFE!
PRACTICING SAFETY – by Bill G. Horsley
Safety is a state of mind, Ingrained with lectures and training
As automatic as reaching for an umbrella, When we look out and see raining.
Safety lectures can be boring, We have all dozed through a few
But if we try to pay full attention, We may learn something new
Safety speeches may seem dull, When we have heard more than our share
Still safety should be our prime concern, When facing workplace dangers out there
Safety is never boring, When OSHA arrives on the scene
To question just how an accident occurred, And why the problem was not foreseen
Safety has to be practiced, Until it becomes a part of everyday life
For when safety does become a state of mind, It saves much stress and strife
PROGRESS – by Bill G. Horsley
From the caveman to the present, Safety has been a matter of great concern
Even the first caveman understood the principal, That if you play with fire you will get burned
In the days of horse and buggy, Safety was always an unwritten rule
Every young boy down on the family farm, Knew not to walk behind a mule
When automobiles were the coming rage, We soon learned to jump and duck for cover
As some drivers was busy yelling whoa out loud, While pedestrians were being run over
When we entered the space age, Safety was uppermost on everybody’s mind
As we learned of new and multiplied dangers, When the familiar was left far behind
Safety will always be important, New lessons have to be learned each day
As technologies progress and new dangers arise, And new safety measures come into play
SAFETY MARGIN – by Bill G. Horsley
LEAVING A MARGIN FOR ERROR, IS AN ADAGE THAT IS WIDELY KNOWN
BUT SAFETY SHOULD NEVER BE JUST MARGINAL, IT IS A SEED THAT MUST BE CAREFULLY SOWN
THOUGHTS OF DAILY SAFETY, SHOULD BE SOWN IN EVERY MIND
SO THAT DANGERS AND ACCIDENTS, MAY BE LEFT FAR BEHIND
WHEN WE PRACTICE SAFETY, WE ARE WORKING BY KNOWN RULES
AND CARE AND SAFETY ARE TWO PRIME SUBJECTS, IN WHICH WE NEED TO BE WELL SCHOOLED
WE CANNOT STRESS SAFETY ENOUGH, UNTIL ACCIDENTS JUST TOTALLY CEASE TO BE
WE ARE STILL BOUND IN CHAINS OF CARELESSNESS, AND NEED SAFETY TO SET US FREE
Safety is never marginal, It is of prime importance in our life
It should always be studied and practiced, To overcome accidental stress and strife
ATTITUDE – by Charles R. Swindoll
The single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me, or say about me, my circumstances, or my position. The attitude I choose, keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitudes are right, there’s no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.
A PERSON OF CHARACTER – by Bill G. Horsley
A person of character if different, They always stand out from the crowd
They will neither lie nor cheat nor go astray, No stain upon their reputation is allowed
Integrity is sometimes just a word, One that may be too easily overused
But a person of integrity knows it’s worth, And their word is never abused
A person who holds themselves accountable, And expects the same from each one they meet
Is held in esteem and given honor for their life, By each one that they greet
Responsibility is a trust, One that is sometimes given in vain
But a person who is responsible to other, Will have honor added to their name
Truth must be spoken, If real trust is to be earned
Honesty is still the best policy, A lesson we all need to learn
We are sharers of the world, And are often judged by many others
But a person of character never has to fear judgment, For they treat everyone as sister or brother

SAD SAM – by Bill G. Horsley 11/10/2012 – NEW
SAD SAM WAS VERY FOOLISH
HE THOUGHT HE KNEW ABOUT POWER TOOLS
SO HE TOOK NO TIME OR EVER MADE AN EFFORT
TO BE CURRENT WITH ALL THE SAFETY RULES
SAD SAM OFTEN USED A CHAIN SAW
THE POWER GAVE HIM QUITE A THRILL
HE DIDN’T BOTHER WITH SAFETY MANUALS
OR REALIZE HE MIGHT BE KILLED
SAD SAM SURVIVED THE ACCIDENT
AND NOW BELIEVES IN HAVING SAFETY FIRST
HE LOST THREE FINGERS ON ONE OF HIS HANDS
BUT KNOWS IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE.
SAD SAM – by Bill G. Horsley 11/10/2012
SAD SAM SLEPT THROUGH SAFETY CLASS
HE PAID NO ATTENTION TO THE FACTS PRESENTED
HE CONSIDERED SAFETY CLASSES A WASTE OF TIME
AND THIS IMPOSITION HE RESENTED
SAD SAM LEFT THE CLASS
WITH NO IDEA OF THE SAFETY RULES
HE THOUGHT HE KNEW ALL HE NEEDED TO KNOW
ABOUT THE MACHINERY AND TOOLS
SAD SAM SLIPPED ON SOME GREASE
DROPPED FROM A GREASE GUN BADLY ABUSED
BUT INSTEAD OF LEARNING A LESSON IN SAFETY
HE NOW JUST FEELS SORELY USED.
SAFETY SAM – by Bill G. Horsley 9/1/2013
Sad Sam stepped on an oily spot
That was left carelessly on the floor
Sad Sam was very upset and sore to boot
Sad Sam doesn’t walk well anymore
Sad Sam was just walking down the street
When he decided to cross against the light
Two cars and a bus really caused quite a fuss
And left Sad Sam looking a pitiful sight
Sad Sam walked under a ladder
Which is something we know no one should ever do
He did not see the paint bucket there high overhead
The accident left Sad Sam sporting a rainbow hue
Sad Sam got in his car soon after work
He revved his engine just as happy as a lark
He totaled his sedan and three other cars in the lot
He didn’t check to see if the gearshift was in Park
Sad Sam is very accident prone
That is always easy for anyone to see
He has more scratched and broken limbs
Than the average storm tossed tree
SAFETY SAM – by Bill G. Horsley 11/10/2012

AND HE PRACTICES SAFETY AND ACCIDENT PREVENTION
ALL ALONG THE WAY.
SAFETY SAM – by Bill G. Horsley 11/10/2012
SAFETY SAM KNEW HIS BUSINESS
ALL THE DANGERS HE MIGHT FIND AT WORK
SO WHEN IT CAME TO PRACTICING DAILY SAFETY
SAM WOULD NEVER SHIRK
EACH PIECE OF MACHINERY HAD A MANUAL
WHICH SAFETY SAM WANTED TO LEARN BY HEART
WHEN IT CAME TO SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE
SAM ALWAYS WANTED TO DO HIS PART
HE MADE A STUDY OF HIS WORK AREA
AND IDENTIFIED EACH POSSIBLE HAZARD THERE
WHEN IT CAME TO SAFETY FOR HIMSELF AND OTHERS
SAM ALWAYS TOOK GREAT CARE
SAFETY SAM HAS WORKED FOR A LONG TIME
WITH NO ACCIDENTS TO CAUSE HIM LOST DAYS
FOR SAM FOLLOWS SAFETY RULES AND PRACTICES
EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
* SAFETY SAM: Hang In and Hang On and Remember! Be Safe – Don’t Be Accidental!!
SAFETY SAM ASKED TO SPEAK– by Bill G. Horsley
Safety Sam was asked to speak – And he knew that he had things to say
Words that he felt others should really hear – As they worked through their day
He thought of Topics he might address – Of Words of Wisdom that he might impart
Then he chose to speak on the one Subject – That is closest to his own mind and heart
He thought of so very many things – That he might say or take time to do
And decided that his very best approach – As to speak on the things that he knew
There were times he should have been more careful – There were things that he wished that he had done
Then, of course, he felt that he had no real choice – But to choose Safety as Topic Number One –
SAFETY SAM HAS A PLAN- by Bill G. Horsley
Safety Sam has a plan, he follows it every day – He is no fool, he follows safety rules
All along the way
Safety Sam knows accidents, don’t always happen by chance
He checks for slippery spots, and just as like as not
He avoids them with just a glance
Safety Sam knows the highway, is dangerous place for drivers there
He drives at a safe and legal pace, He has no interest in winning a race
He drives cautious and with care
Safety Sam drives through rain and snow, but his safety record is still in tact
He clears his windshield of debris, S that he can always safely see
And always checks both front and back
Safety Sam went to safety school, he was thought the brightest there
When asked how to avoid an accident, He said just what I meant
When he said just by taking care!
Safety Sam is a cautious man, He wishes to avoid hurt and pain
He knows that accidents abound, where safe practices are not found
The need for safety is plain
Safety Sam is always aware, of the need to stay awake and alert
Those who do not open their eyes, often meet accidents by surprise
And Sam has no wish to be hurt
Safety Sam knows safety; He practices safety as a rule
He stays alert and aware, to avoid accidents out there
Practicing safety is always cool
SAD SAM HAD MANY ACCIDENTS – by Bill G. Horsley
Sad Sam had so many Accidents, He sought out OSHA for their best advice
They told him to watch out for low overheads, And to be Careful walking on the Ice
They told him to be extra Cautious, When working around Equipment and Tools
For Accidents are most often caused to others, By Careless Folks who don’t follow Safety Rules
OSHA gave him some Handouts on Safety, They were filled with Cautions and Safety Tips
They pointed out the Dangers of Electrical Outlets, And how to Avoid many Falls and Slips
They pointed out the Hazards of Overconfidence, And the need to Check and then to Check Once Again
Not to rely on what had once passed a Safety Inspection, Just because That Was The Way It Had Always Been
They were specific in their advice on Power Tools, And how easy it is to lose a Finger or perhaps an Eye
When Proper Use and Safety Precautions prevent Danger, And make their use so much easier to Apply
Sam took all the Advice that OSHA gave to him, And put it quickly to use at work when he got back
Now he has had so many Fewer Accidents and Days Off…..That Everyone Calls Him Smiling Jack!
SAD SAM – by Bill G. Horsley
SAD SAM RODE HIS MOTORCYCLE, AS FAST AS HE COULD UPON THE HIGHWAY
ALTHOUGH HE RODE QUITE OFTEN, HE RODE WITH NO REAL CAUTION
WHICH IS WHY HIS FUNERAL IS TODAY
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
SAD SAM GAVE NO REAL THOUGHT, TO THE MANY DANGERS OF SNOW AND ICE
HE THOUGHT HE KNEW IT ALL, UNTIL HE HAD A BAD FALL
HE SHOULD HAVE SOUGHT SAFETY ADVICE
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
SAD SAM THOUGHT SAFETY, WAS SOMETHING HE COULD SAFELY IGNORE
BUT WHILE CROSSING THE STREET, A SPEEDING TRUCK HE DID MEET
NOW SAM’S NOT WITH US ANYMORE
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – — – –
SAD SAM SAID THAT SAFETY, WAS SOMETHING PRACTICED BY NERDS
UNTIL HE WAS BUSY TRYING TO TALK, AND DIDN’T WATCH WHERE HE WALKED
NOW SAM HAS NO MORE WORDS
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
SAD SAM WAS TOO BUSY TO LISTEN, HE SEEMED ALWAYS TO BE RUNNING LATE
HE HAD NO TIME FOR SAFETY TIPS, UNTIL HE FELL AND BROKE HIS HIP
NOW HE HAS PLENTY OF TIME TO RECUPERATE
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
SAD SAM NEVER LEARNED THE LESSON, THAT SAFETY IS IMPORTANT IN EVERY DAY
WHICH IS WHY HE CONTINUES TO BE, AN ACCIDENT WE ARE WAITING TO SEE
AS HE CARELESSLY GOES UPON HIS WAY
PRAYERS & MORE:
A SAFETY PRAYER – by Bill G. Horsley
Lord, uncloud my eyes, that I might see dangers waiting for me.
Lord, clear my mind, that I might think ahead and be accident free.
Lord, touch my heart, that I might remember the safety of others.
Lord , touch my soul, with concern for my sister and my brother.
Please walk close to me, as I walk through this dangerous life.
Help me to be alert and aware, to avoid life’s accidents and strife.
Remind me always to be thankful, for all that you have seen me through.
And help me always to be mindful, that my eternal safety is in you.
EXPECTATIONS – by Bill G. Horsley
OUR GOD HAS PROVIDED A MARVELOUS ARRAY
OF MIND AND EYES AND KNOWLEDGE TO BE USED
HE EXPECTS EACH OF US TO USE THE GIFTS GIVEN
AND NOT BE GUILTY OF ANY ABUSE
OUR GOD HAS PROVIDED US A WONDERFUL WORLD
BUT NOT EVERY DANGER HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM LIFE
HE EXPECTS THAT WE WILL USE HIS GIFTS OF MIND AND EYES
TO AVOID MUCH OF LIFE’S STRESS AND STRIFE
OUR GOD HAS PROVIDED FOR OUR EVERY NEED
BUT HE EXPECTS US TO USE HIS GIFTS TO DO OUR PART
TO SHOW CARE AND CONCERN IN EVERYTHING THAT WE MAY DO
TO TAKE LIFE’S LESSONS TO OUR HEART
OUR GOD WATCHES OVER US HERE
BUT HE EXPECTS US TO USE GIFTS GIVEN TO EVERYONE
WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE USE OF GOD’S EARTHLY GIFTS
WHEN THE FINAL DAY IS DONE.
SAFE (PRAYER) – by Bill G. Horsley
AS I LOOK UP AT THE STARS, I FEEL THAT I CAN ALMOST SEE INFINITY
AS I LOOK UPON THE WORDS GIVEN ALL BY GOD, I FIND A PROMISE FOR ETERNITY
I KNOW THAT I AM MORTAL, INFINITY IS MORE THAN I CAN UNDERSTAND
BUT WITH THE PROMISE OF ETERNITY WITH GOD, I FEEL SAFE HELD WITHIN HIS HAND
I CANNOT CONTROL TOMORROW, EACH HOUR COMES WITH NEW DEMANDS
BUT WITH GOD’S PROMISE OF LOVE AND CARE, I FEEL SAFE HELD WITHIN HIS HAND
I KNOW WHO PLACED THE STARS, WHO BREATHED CREATION INTO LIFE
AND I TRUST THE PROMISE OF MY GOD, TO HOLD ME SAFE FROM STRIFE
AS I LOOK UPON THE STARS, I DO NOT THINK OF HOW SMALL I TRULY AM
BUT WITH THE PROMISE GIVEN TO ALL BY OUR GOD, I FEEL SAFE HELD WITHIN HIS HAND.
LIFE’S BOOK – by Bill G. Horsley
OUR LIFE’S BOOK IS FILLED, WITH THE ACTS WE COMMIT IN LIFE
IT IS UP TO US WHAT ENTRIES IT CONTAINS, WHETHER FILLED WITH LOVE OR STRIFE
EACH MORNING OF A NEW DAY, GOD PROVIDES A NEW PAGE TO BE FILLED
WHETHER WE ACT IN OUR SELFISH FULFILLMENT, OR SEEK TO FIND AND LIVE IN GOD’S WILL
WE HAVE CHOICES TO MAKE IN LIFE, WE CAN CHOOSE A PATH ALL OUR VERY OWN
OR WE CAN BE GUIDED BY THE CREATOR OF ALL, WE DO NOT HAVE TO WALK ALONE
EACH PAGE OF LIFE IS WRITTEN, BY EVERYTHING THAT WE EVER DO OR SAY
WE ARE THE AUTHOR OF OUR LIFE’S PAGES, IN OUR EACH AND EVERY DAY
OUR LIFE’S BOOK IS FILLED, WITH OUR ACTIONS AND OUR OWN WILL
WHETHER OR NOT WE SEEK OUT GOD’S DIRECTION, WILL DETERMINE HOW EACH PAGE IS FILLED.
SAFE AT HOME – by Bill G. Horsley
The angel flight has landed; we have arrived safe on Heavens shore
We will be at home with our savior forever; we will be in his presence forever more
We have arrived home safely; our savior stands now with open arms
He is welcoming us to our home in Heaven, Safe now from all trouble and harm
The angel flight has landed; our feet are now on sacred ground
We are home at last to share all eternity, with friends and family all around
We area standing in the presence, of the one who gave us eternal life
We are safe at home in Heaven now at last, free now from life’s stress and strife
The angel’s flight has landed; we have arrived at home now at last
We will spend eternity with our savior, the suffering and pain is past.
RENEWAL by Wgh
CHRISTMAS DAY HAS COME AND GONE
LIKE SO MANY THAT HAVE LONG SINCE PASSED
BUT IF WE REMEMBER WHAT CHRISTMAS TRULY IS
SURELY OUR GRATITUDE TO GOD WILL LAST
CHRISTMAS IS A TIME OF GIVING
AS GOD GAVE HIS GIFT OF LOVE TO EARTH
THE GIFT OF A SON SENT FOR OUR SALVATION
THE GIFT OF A SAVIOR’S BIRTH
CHRISTMAS COMES WRAPPED IN LOVE
AS GOD’S LOVE WAS SHOWN FOR ALL MANKIND
WHEN IN HIS LOVE HE REACHED OUT TO EVERYONE
THAT NONE EVER NEED BE LEFT BEHIND
CHRISTMAS IS A TIME OF REMEMBRANCE
AS WE REMEMBER HOW MUCH GOD’S GIFT OF LOVE COST
AS WE REMEMBER A CHILD WHO WAS BORN IN LOVE FOR ALL
THE LOVE THAT WAS EXPRESSED FOR ALL UPON A CROSS
CHRISTMAS IS A RENEWAL OF HOPE
HOPE THAT COMES FROM GOD’S LOVE FOR MAN
A RENEWAL OF THE LOVE WE SHARE WITH OUR GOD
IN THE REMEMBRANCE OF GOD’S GIFT TO MAN. Wgh
May God always share his Love, His Presence, and His Peace with you and yours.
HELP – by Bill G. Horsley
We all need help in Life, There is no shame in our need
Our God provides His strength to us, We are God’s chosen seed
Our strength is not great, We may fail in much that we try
But our God is there with infinite love, To comfort us when we cry
We have no greatness in ourself, We are the creation of God’s Hand
It is only in His Love and His Strength, That we are able to stand
When we reach out to God, We find that He is always near
He provides for our needs in Life, Peace to overcome our fear
We all need help in Life, God is the Source of all our power
He holds us close to his Loving Heart, Every minute, every hour.
QUESTION – by Bill G. Horsley
I got to thinking today, About how many of us view Life
We want to take credit for any Triumphs, And blame Others for Stress and Strife
We often seem to feel Entitled, To having our Place and our Way, But when Others take time to Disagree with Us
We don’t want to Hear what They have to say
We don’t want to admit that we need Help
With anything that we may set out to try to do
And often We find it hard to acknowledge those Others
Who have reached out to help Us through
We somehow feel that our many Blessings
Are only a part of what We deserve in our Life
While surely there must have been a serious Mistake
When We face Pain or Stress or Strife
If ever I get to Bow Down before my God
I will acknowledge Him as Creator and in Charge
But when I ask about His Creation of all Mankind
I will ask why He made our Egos so Large!
AGE OF MIRACLES by Bill G. Horsley
MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN, JUST LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE TESTIFY
WHEN NEEDS ARISE IN THE LIVES OF THE FAITHFUL, OUR GOD IS ALWAYS NEAR BY
IF YOU THINK PRAYERS AREN’T ANSWERED, JUST LISTEN TO THOSE TOUCHED BY GOD’S HAND
THE BLIND WHO HAVE A HEALING TOUCH OF SIGHT, THE CRIPPLE WHO CAN NOW STAND
NEEDS ARISE IN EVERY LIFE, HEALING OF BOTH THE BODY AND THE SOUL
GOD THE CREATOR IS ALSO THE GREAT PHYSICIAN, ONLY HIS TOUCH CAN MAKE US WHOLE
OUR GOD IS A LOVING GOD, HE CONTINUALLY REACHES OUT TO MAN
HE WILL HEAL AND HELP US TO TRULY LIVE, HEALING IS A PART OF GOD’S PLAN
MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN, THE DAYS OF MIRACLES ARE NOT PAST
OUR GOD IS CLOSE BY WHEN WE HAVE A NEED, GOD HAS THE TOUCH THAT WILL LAST.
OPEN ALTAR by Bill G. Horsley
THE ALTAR IS ALWAYS OPEN, IT IS ALWAYS APPROPRIATE TO PRAY
WHEN WE REACH OUT TO TALK TO OUR GOD, HIS PRESENCE FILLS OUR DAY
THE ALTAR IS ALWAYS OPEN, A PLACE TO KNEEL BEFORE OUR LORD
HIS LOVE IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO EVERY HEART, WE HAVE THE PROMISE OF HIS WORD
WHEN WE SPEAK HIS NAME, OUR GOD IS ALWAYS READY TO HEAR
WHEN WE REACH OUT TO HIM IN OUR NEED, WE ALWAYS FIND HIM NEAR
WHEN WE KNEEL BEFORE GOD, HE IS READY TO TOUCH OUR HEART
WHEN WE HAVE A NEED OF HIS TOUCH, HE DOES NOT STAND FAR APART
THE ALTAR IS ALWAYS OPEN, WE CAN ALWAYS KNEEL AND PRAY
WHEN WE SEEK HIS TOUCH AND HIS LOVE, HIS PRESENCE WILL FILL OUR DAY.
NO BACK DOOR – by Bill G. Horsley
Heaven has no back door, There is no way of slipping in
We enter through the Golden Gates, Only if we are free of sin
Entry into Heaven, Is by Invitation of our Lord
We must accept his Sacrifice and Love, And be obedient to His Word
When we enter Heaven’s Gates, Our Father will be waiting for us there
Our entry into Heaven is only assured by Him
If our Life is in His Keeping and His Care, There is no other way
To arrive at Heaven’s Gates high above
Than through our Repentance and His Forgiveness, Our Invitation is a part of God’s Love
Heaven has no back door, There is only one way to enter in
The entry always comes through Forgiveness, And being lifted from our Sin.
JOY FILLED MUSIC by Bill G. Horsley
WHEN THERE IS JOY IN MUSIC, IT LIFTS THE HEART AND FILLS THE SOUL
WHEN THE WORDS UPLIFT THE LORD WE SERVE, MUSIC HELPS TO MAKE US WHOLE
WHEN WILLING HEARTS JOIN WITH TALENT, TO SING SONGS OF HOPE AND GOD FILLED PRAISE
THEY HELP EVEN THE HUNGRIEST HEART TO BE FED, THEY BRING JOY TO OUR DAYS
WHEN WORDS ARE FILLED WITH MEANING, AND MUSICIANS KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORDS
THEY BRING TOGETHER TALENT AND THEIR WORSHIP, TO BRING FORTH PRAISE TO OUR LIVING LORD
WHEN MUSIC PLEASES THE EAR OF GOD, IT FILLS THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO CAN HEAR
MUSIC IN THE FORM OF PRAISE AND TRUE HONOR, BRING MAN AND GOD NEAR
WHEN THERE IS JOY IN THE MUSIC, WHEN TRUE PRAISE FILLS THE VERY AIR
HUNGRY HEARTS ARE FED WITH TRUE WORSHIP, AND THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS THERE.
MY DAILY PRAYER
“God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain. “And God granted his request.”
PRAYER OF JABEZ
And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
OLD IRISH BLESSING – Author unknown
May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
HOLIDAYS & SEASONS:
SANTA’S SAFETY PLAN – by Bill G. Horsley – NEW
The folks at Safety Alliance Are looking forward to Christmas this year
They have looked over Santa’s Safety Record And find no reason for any alarm or fear
Of course last year was a little different, When Santa asked for their help up at the Pole
But with the Safety Plan that they have devised, This year they expect everyone to be Safe and Whole
Parts of the Safety Plan involve Santa and his Elves And much time is given to Safety Oversight
For there are bound to be at least a few mistakes, With so much to do in just one hectic night
Everyone has been well briefed on Safety And Attitude has been much discussed among the Elves
Everything has been checked and double checked again, From Reindeer hooves to restocking Santa’s Toy shelves
And of course Santa has taken the Safety Pledge, To be sure that safe measures are in place for everyone
He has double checked each part of the overall Safety Plan And everything that can be checked for Safety is now done
So the folks at Safety Alliance, Feel proud of making Christmas Safe this year
When it comes to relying upon a real Safety Plan, They have never a doubt nor a fear
Now they can wait expectantly for Christmas Eve, For old Santa to deliver Toys and Gifts galore
For they have Santa’s Safety Plan in practice And Santa is safer than he ever was before.
SAFETY ALLIANCE KEEPING SANTA SAFE THIS YEAR! – by Bill G. Horsley
*Santa was having a few problems in his workshop and with his sleigh, He wanted some expert advice on Safety.
So, before he got started on his way, He called in the Safety experts, Safety Alliance to give him advice.
They were ready for such a high profile job, And didn’t need to be asked twice.
Of course the trip so far North, All the way up there to the North Pole
It required some Prior Planning on their part, To prevent injuries from the Snow and Cold
They arrived with advice and plans, To have a safe workplace for each Elf
Old Santa was happy to have their assistance, As even he can’t do everything by himself
They pointed out the safety hazards found, In the making of all those Gifts and Toys
To help old Santa have a much safer Christmas, And not disappoint all the Girls and Boys
Old Santa is always such a jolly sort, Who enjoys giving back so much in Life
And now he can have a Safe and a Merry Christmas, Without being subject to accidental stress and strife
So don’t be surprised too very much, When you receive Santa’s Greeting this year
When he asks you to have a very Merry Christmas, And to have a Safe New Year!
SANTA’S SAFETY HINTS – by Bill G. Horsley
Santa is very aware of safety, As he loads toys upon his sleigh
He always lifts from the knees, To make heavy lifting a breeze
Before going Ho-Ho-Hoing on his way
Santa gathered his elves around, To give a lecture on safety and care
He spoke of the hazards of snow, About watching for sure footing below
And all the other winter hazards out there.
Santa has his magic reindeer, To pull his sleigh through the sky
But even high in the night air, you have to stay alert and aware
And always watch out for the other guy.
Santa knows the danger, Even when you’re out seeking a gift
If you don’t watch for the snow and ice, You’ll find it is never very nice
To wind up stuck in a snow drift
Santa knows winter hazards, That can bring danger and harm
He knows it is best to go slow, through winter ice and snow
And always remember to dress warm
Santa knows even little things, can cause someone pain and hurt
Paper cuts are small, But they hurt after all
So stay safe and alert
Santa wishes you a Merry Christmas, And to all he wishes a safe Christmas night
Practice safety in all that you do, And your accidents will be few
For safety and Santa are always right.
WINTER SAFETY – by Bill G. Horsley
Winter is in full force, With all it’s ice and chill
A season of snow and icy winds, And often a skid and spill
Driving on snow and ice, Can be a challenge for some
But with thought given to safety, It can be safety down
Clean the windows all around, Give yourself a chance to see the highway
If you can’t see what is going on around you, You can’t avoid what is coming your way
Slow down and be careful, Leave some room between cars
Watch out for all the others around you, You don’t know how dangerous they are
Remember the rules of safety, And always try to plan ahead
Being a few minutes late for work, Is better than being dead
EXTRA – by Bill G. Horsley
(1) In Rain or Snow…It is Best to Go Slow
(2) Watch where you Place your Feet…In Wintery Days of Ice and Sleet
NEW YEAR’S SAFETY RESOLUTIONS – by Bill G. Horsley
Here we are in a brand New Year, Can you believe it is now twenty-twelve (12)
Time for a new strat in the way we live, Time to make some re solutions again
Some folks will surely fail to think, Before they take that next great leap
They will fail to see what we already know, There are some resolutions we should keep
We will resolve to be a little safer, Surely a resolution that will always matter
To remember to look before we take that next step, To avoid our falling off another ladder
We must resolve to talk about safety, And mention often the danger of playing with fire
As well as watching out for low hanging electric lines, To avoid becoming a real live wire
We have resolved to be safer in our driving, And to always look around to see just where we are
To stop at red lights and take some time for safety, To avoid being run over by another truck or car
So many accidents happen in our homes, We resolved to watch for fires and falls
If we aren’t aware of the hazards all around, Our resolutions won’t matter at all
So the final resolution for twenty ten, Is to be cautious in all that we try to do
If we take enough time to think and not to act in haste, Our safety resolutions will see us safely through
SAFETY IS NEVER OUT OF SEASON- by Bill G. Horsley
Safety is never out of Season, In winter, summer, spring, or fall
Safety practices in all times of the year, Are important to us all
A little bit of forethought, May easily save someone another accident
To avoid unintentional harm to another person, Or having another life needlessly spent
Safety is everyone’s job, We need to practice it every day
It pays dividends in added work hours, Every step of the way
Time spent investigating accidents, Does no good if the lesson is never learned
Every time we decide to play with fire again, Someone is sure to get burned
Safe practices do take some time, When we may be in a hurry to get work done
But time is saved if there are no accidents, And is to the benefit of everyone
Safety is always the key, To having a safe workplace
Slow and steady gets the job done, And caution often wins the race
- New Years Come and Go; The need for Safety is Forever!
- Safety is always in Season!
- In Winter Snow or Summer Sun, Safety should be Priority One!
- Be Safe, Not just another Accidental Statistic!
- Think Safety, Drive Safely, Be Safe!
- Don’t Drink and Drive, We want you to Arrive Alive!
On Winter Ice Don’t Slip and Fall
They Might not find You, Until the Spring Thaw
When you’re Driving Don’t Slip and Slide
Drive with Caution, For an Enjoyable Ride
During the Holiday Season Enjoy each Festive Day
But take time to be Safe
