Industrial Hygiene Technician– 10/20/2011

ATC Associates is a national engineering/consulting firm that specializes in environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction materials testing and inspection services.  ATC Associates is currently seeking a candidate to fill an immediate opening for a full-time Industrial Hygiene Technician.

Essential Job Functions

The Industrial Hygiene Technician will be responsible for conducting building surveys prior to renovation and demolition activities.  Any potentially hazardous materials identified during the surveys (i.e., asbestos, lead, mold, PCBs, etc.) would need to be documented by the Industrial Hygiene Technician and characterized by collecting air and bulk environmental samples and submitting them to an appropriate laboratory.  Once results have been obtained from the laboratory, the Industrial Hygiene Technician would be expected to prepare a concise written report describing existing conditions, sampling methodologies, results, and appropriate corrective actions.   In addition to building surveys, the Industrial Hygiene Technician may be required to go to industrial facilities and perform occupational exposure assessments in order to determine if workers are potentially exposed to various chemical agents in excess of established occupational exposure limits. Candidate will be expected to follow protocols established by appropriate regulatory agencies and take direction from Project Manager and/or Department Manager. Conduct safety audits. Should be willing to travel approximately 25%-30%.

Education/Experience/Certifications

Three to five years professional asbestos and industrial hygiene work experience in a consulting capacity required. B.S. in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Environmental Health, or other closely related technical scientific discipline preferred. Current Asbestos Building Inspector/Management Planner, Contractor Supervisor, and/or Project Designer certifications in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Ohio Certified Lead Inspector/Lead Risk Assessor preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

Excellent reporting writing skills and good field notes. Must be proficient in air sampling equipment calibration. Ideal candidate must be organized and able to complete tasks independently. Should be able to effectively communicate with clients and prospects. Excellent computer skills including all MS Office programs is required.

Providing risk improvement consultation to commercial customers to positively impact their loss ratio and deliver value that influences their insurance buying decision. A key expectation for this position will be the successful execution of consultative based servicing and risk engineering services to clients, especially business developed from our Risk Management and Real Estate underwriting groups which are based in New York City. GULF OF MEXICO –  Entry Level Safety Professionals (May 19, 2010)
