WINTER SAFETY – by Bill G. Horsley

Winter is in full force, With all it’s ice and chill

A season of snow and icy winds, And often a skid and spill

Driving on snow and ice, Can be a challenge for some

But with thought given to safety, It can be safety down

Clean the windows all around, Give yourself a chance to see the highway

If you can’t see what is going on around you, You can’t avoid what is coming your way

Slow down and be careful, Leave some room between cars

Watch out for all the others around you, You don’t know how dangerous they are

Remember the rules of safety, And always try to plan ahead

Being a few minutes late for work, Is better than being dead

EXTRA

(1) In Rain or Snow…It is Best to Go Slow

(2) Watch where you Place your Feet…In Wintery Days of Ice and Sleet

NEW YEAR’S SAFETY RESOLUTIONS – by Bill G. Horsley

Here we are in a brand New Year, Can you believe it is now twenty-twelve (12)

Time for a new strat in the way we live, Time to make some re solutions again

Some folks will surely fail to think, Before they take that next great leap

They will fail to see what we already know, There are some resolutions we should keep

We will resolve to be a little safer, Surely a resolution that will always matter

To remember to look before we take that next step, To avoid our falling off another ladder

We must resolve to talk about safety, And mention often the danger of playing with fire

As well as watching out for low hanging electric lines, To avoid becoming a real live wire

We have resolved to be safer in our driving, And to always look around to see just where we are

To stop at red lights and take some time for safety, To avoid being run over by another truck or car

So many accidents happen in our homes, We resolved to watch for fires and falls

If we aren’t aware of the hazards all around, Our resolutions won’t matter at all

So the final resolution for twenty ten, Is to be cautious in all that we try to do

If we take enough time to think and not to act in haste, Our safety resolutions will see us safely through

SAFETY IS NEVER OUT OF SEASON- by Bill G. Horsley

Safety is never out of Season, In winter, summer, spring, or fall

Safety practices in all times of the year, Are important to us all

A little bit of forethought, May easily save someone another accident

To avoid unintentional harm to another person, Or having another life needlessly spent

Safety is everyone’s job, We need to practice it every day

It pays dividends in added work hours, Every step of the way

Time spent investigating accidents, Does no good if the lesson is never learned

Every time we decide to play with fire again, Someone is sure to get burned

Safe practices do take some time, When we may be in a hurry to get work done

But time is saved if there are no accidents, And is to the benefit of everyone

Safety is always the key, To having a safe workplace

Slow and steady gets the job done, And caution often wins the race

  • New Years Come and Go; The need for Safety is Forever!
  • Safety is always in Season!
  • In Winter Snow or Summer Sun, Safety should be Priority One!
  • Be Safe, Not just another Accidental Statistic!
  • Think Safety, Drive Safely, Be Safe!
  • Don’t Drink and Drive, We want you to Arrive Alive!

On Winter Ice Don’t Slip and Fall

They Might not find You, Until the Spring Thaw

When you’re Driving Don’t Slip and Slide

Drive with Caution, For an Enjoyable Ride

During the Holiday Season Enjoy each Festive Day

But take time to be Safe

* SAFETY SAM: Hang In and Hang On and Remember! Be Safe – Don’t Be Accidental!!

SAFETY SAM ASKED TO SPEAK- by Bill G. Horsley

Safety Sam was asked to speak

And he knew that he had things to say

Words that he felt others should really hear

As they worked through their day

He thought of Topics he might address

Of Words of Wisdom that he might impart

Then he chose to speak on the one Subject

That is closest to his own mind and heart

He thought of so very many things

That he might say or take time to do

And decided that his very best approach

As to speak on the things that he knew

There were times he should have been more careful

There were things that he wished that he had done

Then, of course, he felt that he had no real choice

But to choose Safety as Topic Number One -

SAFETY SAM HAS A PLAN- by Bill G. Horsley

Safety Sam has a plan, he follows it every day

He is no fool, he follows safety rules

All along the way

Safety Sam knows accidents, don’t always happen by chance

He checks for slippery spots, and just as like as not

He avoids them with just a glance

Safety Sam knows the highway, is dangerous place for drivers there

He drives at a safe and legal pace, He has no interest in winning a race

He drives cautious and with care

Safety Sam drives through rain and snow, but his safety record is still in tact

He clears his windshield of debris, S that he can always safely see

And always checks both front and back

Safety Sam went to safety school, he was thought the brightest there

When asked how to avoid an accident, He said just what I meant

When he said just by taking care!

Safety Sam is a cautious man, He wishes to avoid hurt and pain

He knows that accidents abound, where safe practices are not found

The need for safety is plain

Safety Sam is always aware, of the need to stay awake and alert

Those who do not open their eyes, often meet accidents by surprise

And Sam has no wish to be hurt

Safety Sam knows safety;  He practices safety as a rule

He stays alert and aware, to avoid accidents out there

Practicing safety is always cool

NEW - SAD SAM HAD MANY ACCIDENTSby Bill G. Horsley

Sad Sam had so many Accidents, He sought out OSHA for their best advice

They told him to watch out for low overheads, And to be Careful walking on the Ice

They told him to be extra Cautious, When working around Equipment and Tools

For Accidents are most often caused to others, By Careless Folks who don’t follow Safety Rules

OSHA gave him some Handouts on Safety, They were filled with Cautions and Safety Tips

They pointed out the Dangers of Electrical Outlets, And how to Avoid many Falls and Slips

They pointed out the Hazards of Overconfidence, And the need to Check and then to Check Once Again

Not to rely on what had once passed a Safety Inspection, Just because That Was The Way It Had Always Been

They were specific in their advice on Power Tools, And how easy it is to lose a Finger or perhaps an Eye

When Proper Use and Safety Precautions prevent Danger, And make their use so much easier to Apply

Sam took all the Advice that OSHA gave to him, And put it quickly to use at work when he got back

Now he has had so many Fewer Accidents and Days Off…..That Everyone Calls Him Smiling Jack!

SAD SAM - by Bill G. Horsley

SAD SAM WAS A MIGHTY MAN, WHO THOUGHT HEAVY LIFTING A BREEZE

UNTIL HE HEARD A LOUD CRACK, FROM THE MIDDLE OF HIS BACK

HE FORGOT TO LIFT WITH HIS KNEES

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

SAD SAM GAVE NO THOUGHT, TO ANY SORT OF SAFETY MATTERS

NOW HE LIES IN A HOSPITAL BED, BANDAGED FROM TOES TO HIS HEAD

THE RESULT OF FALLING OFF A LADDER

- – - – - – - – - – - — – - – - – -

SAD SAM RODE HIS MOTORCYCLE, AS FAST AS HE COULD UPON THE HIGHWAY

ALTHOUGH HE RODE QUITE OFTEN, HE RODE WITH NO REAL CAUTION

WHICH IS WHY HIS FUNERAL IS TODAY

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - — – - -

SAD SAM SLEPT THOUGH SAFETY CLASSES, HE THOUGHT THEY WERE OF NO REAL USE AT ALL

BUT HE WAS BADLY BURNED, FROM LESSONS NOT LEARNED

NOW HE IS A LESSON TO US ALL

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -

SAD SAM GAVE NO REAL THOUGHT, TO THE MANY DANGERS OF SNOW AND ICE

HE THOUGHT HE KNEW IT ALL, UNTIL HE HAD A BAD FALL

HE SHOULD HAVE SOUGHT SAFETY ADVICE

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – -

SAD SAM THOUGHT SAFETY, WAS SOMETHING HE COULD SAFELY IGNORE

BUT WHILE CROSSING THE STREET, A SPEEDING TRUCK HE DID MEET

NOW SAM’S NOT WITH US ANYMORE

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – — – -

SAD SAM SAID THAT SAFETY, WAS SOMETHING PRACTICED BY NERDS

UNTIL HE WAS BUSY TRYING TO TALK, AND DIDN’T WATCH WHERE HE WALKED

NOW SAM HAS NO MORE WORDS

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

SAD SAM WAS DRIVING FAST, WHILE TEXTING ON HIS CELL PHONE

HE CAME TO A LARGE CURVE, THAT CAUSED HIM TO SWERVE

NOW SAM WON’T BE COMING HOME

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

SAD SAM WAS BUSY AT WORK, WITH A JOB TO BE SPEEDILY COMPLETED

HE WAS WORKING SO FAST, THAT HE PLACED SAFETY LAST

THE WHOLE SAFETY SYSTEM WAS DEFEATED

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -

SAD SAM WAS TOO BUSY TO LISTEN, HE SEEMED ALWAYS TO BE RUNNING LATE

HE HAD NO TIME FOR SAFETY TIPS, UNTIL HE FELL AND BROKE HIS HIP

NOW HE HAS PLENTY OF TIME TO RECUPERATE

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

SAD SAM NEVER LEARNED THE LESSON, THAT SAFETY IS IMPORTANT IN EVERY DAY

WHICH IS WHY HE CONTINUES TO BE, AN ACCIDENT WE ARE WAITING TO SEE

AS HE CARELESSLY GOES UPON HIS WAY

* SAFETY POEMS AND MORE:

SAFETY AND COMMON SENSE by Bill G. Horsley

SAFETY AND COMMON SENSE GO TOGETHER, YOU ALWAYS NEED TO THINK AND TO PLAN AHEAD

IT IS BETTER TO TAKE TIME TO BE SAFE ON THE JOB, THAN TO RUSH IT THROUGH AND WIND UP DEAD

FOR EVERY SAFETY PROCEDURE THERE IS A REASON, SOMEONE HAS TAKEN THE TIME TO THINK IT THROUGH

YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TIME TO FOLLOW SAFETY PROCEDURES, OR THE NEXT ACCIDENT MAY BE CAUSED BY YOU

SAFETY IS A MATTER OF LEARNING AND OF BEHAVIOR, OF TAKING THE TIME TO THINK AND THEN TO SAFELY ACT

NINETY PERCENT OF ACCIDENTS ARE CAUSED BY CARELESSNESS, THAT IS AN ESTABLISHED SAFETY FACT

GOOD BEHAVIOR IS JUST A MATTER OF LEARNING, SAFE BEHAVIOR COMES FROM FOLLOWING THE RULES

BAD BEHAVIOR LEADS TO LACK OF SAFETY AND TO ACCIDENTS, FROM POOR USE OF WORK PRACTICES AND TOOLS

SAFETY DEPENDS ON USE OF COMMON SENSE, OF FOLLOWING THE RULES AND THINKING AHEAD

DON’T BE THE ONE WHO CAUSES THE NEXT ACCIDENT, OR THE ONE WHO WINDS UP DEAD!

SAFETY SAVIOR by Bill G. Horsley

BAD BEHAVIOR ENCOMPASSES QUITE A LOT, FROM NOT THINKING AHEAD TO INTENTIONAL ACTS

BAD BEHAVIOR IS KNOWN TO CAUSE FREQUENT ACCIDENTS, THAT IS AN ESTABLISHED SAFETY FACT

WHETHER THE BEHAVIOR IS JUST HORSE PLAY,  OR ACTS THAT LACK ALL PARTS OF COMMON SENSE

WHEN BAD BEHAVIOR IS EXHIBITED AT THE WORK SITE, ACCIDENTS ALWAYS COMMENCE

BAD BEHAVIOR COMES FROM A BAD ATTITUDE,  FOR A BAD ATTITUDE ALWAYS CAUSES BAD BEHAVIOR

IT IS BETTER BY FAR TO TRY TO CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE,  TO BECOME A SAFETY SAVIOR

IF NINETY PERCENT OF ALL ACCIDENTS,  ARE CAUSED BY EXHIBITING BAD BEHAVIOR

THINK OF HOW MANY LIVES MIGHT BE SAVED, BY YOUR BECOMING A SAFETY SAVIOR

CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE TO CHANGE YOUR BEHAVIOR, BE A POSITIVE FORCE FOR SAFETY AND HELP TO SAVE A LIFE

BECOME A SAFETY SAVIOR IN THE HOME AND IN THE WORK PLACE,  TO REDUCE ACCIDENTAL STRESS AND STRIFE!

PRACTICING SAFETY - by Bill G. Horsley

Safety is a state of mind, Ingrained with lectures and training

As automatic as reaching for an umbrella, When we look out and see raining.

Safety lectures can be boring, We have all dozed through a few

But if we try to pay full attention, We may learn something new

Safety speeches may seem dull, When we have heard more than our share

Still safety should be our prime concern, When facing workplace dangers out there

Safety is never boring, When OSHA arrives on the scene

To question just how an accident occurred, And why the problem was not foreseen

Safety has to be practiced, Until it becomes a part of everyday life

For when safety does become a state of mind, It saves much stress and strife

SAFE AT HOME - by Bill G. Horsley

The angel flight has landed; we have arrived safe on Heavens shore

We will be at home with our savior forever; we will be in his presence forever more

We have arrived home safely; our savior stands now with open arms

He is welcoming us to our home in Heaven, Safe now from all trouble and harm

The angel flight has landed; our feet are now on sacred ground

We are home at last to share all eternity, with friends and family all around

We area standing in the presence, of the one who gave us eternal life

We are safe at home in Heaven now at last, free now from life’s stress and strife

The angel’s flight has landed; we have arrived at home now at last

We will spend eternity with our savior, the suffering and pain is past.

PROGRESS - by Bill G. Horsley

From the caveman to the present, Safety has been a matter of great concern

Even the first caveman understood the principal, That if you play with fire you will get burned

In the days of horse and buggy, Safety was always an unwritten rule

Every young boy down on the family farm, Knew not to walk behind a mule

When automobiles were the coming rage, We soon learned to jump and duck for cover

As some drivers was busy yelling whoa out loud, While pedestrians were being run over

When we entered the space age, Safety was uppermost on everybody’s mind

As we learned of new and multiplied dangers, When the familiar was left far behind

Safety will always be important, New lessons have to be learned each day

As technologies progress and new dangers arise, And new safety measures come into play

SAFETY MARGIN – by Bill G. Horsley

LEAVING A MARGIN FOR ERROR, IS AN ADAGE THAT IS WIDELY KNOWN

BUT SAFETY SHOULD NEVER BE JUST MARGINAL, IT IS A SEED THAT MUST BE CAREFULLY SOWN

THOUGHTS OF DAILY SAFETY, SHOULD BE SOWN IN EVERY MIND

SO THAT DANGERS AND ACCIDENTS, MAY BE LEFT FAR BEHIND

WHEN WE PRACTICE SAFETY, WE ARE WORKING BY KNOWN RULES

AND CARE AND SAFETY ARE TWO PRIME SUBJECTS, IN WHICH WE NEED TO BE WELL SCHOOLED

WE CANNOT STRESS SAFETY ENOUGH, UNTIL ACCIDENTS JUST TOTALLY CEASE TO BE

WE ARE STILL BOUND IN CHAINS OF CARELESSNESS, AND NEED SAFETY TO SET US FREE

Safety is never marginal, It is of prime importance in our life

It should always be studied and practiced, To overcome accidental stress and strife

 * PRAYERS:

MY DAILY PRAYER

“God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain. “And God granted his request.”

PRAYER OF JABEZ

And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

OLD IRISH BLESSING - Author unknown

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

NEW – HELP

We all need help in Life

There is no shame in our need

Our God provides His strength to us

We are God’s chosen seed

Our strength is not great

We may fail in much that we try

But our God is there with infinite love

To comfort us when we cry

We have no greatness in ourself

We are the creation of God’s Hand

It is only in His Love and His Strength

That we are able to stand

When we reach out to God

We find that He is always near

He provides for our needs in Life

Peace to overcome our fear

We all need help in Life

God is the Source of all our power

He holds us close to his Loving Heart

Every minute, every hour.

                  QUESTION

I got to thinking today

About how many of us view Life

We want to take credit for any Triumphs

And blame Others for Stress and Strife

We often seem to feel Entitled

To having our Place and our Way

But when Others take time to Disagree with Us

We don’t want to Hear what They have to say

We don’t want to admit that we need Help

With anything that we may set out to try to do

And often We find it hard to acknowledge those Others

Who have reached out to help Us through

We somehow feel that our many Blessings

Are only a part of what We deserve in our Life

While surely there must have been a serious Mistake

When We face Pain or Stress or Strife

If ever I get to Bow Down before my God

I will acknowledge Him as Creator and in Charge

But when I ask about His Creation of all Mankind

I will ask why He made our Egos so Large!

NO BACK DOOR - by Bill G. Horsley

Heaven has no back door, There is no way of slipping in

We enter through the Golden Gates, Only if we are free of sin

Entry into Heaven, Is by Invitation of our Lord

We must accept his Sacrifice and Love, And be obedient to His Word

When we enter Heaven’s Gates, Our Father will be waiting for us there

Our entry into Heaven is only assured by Him

If our Life is in His Keeping and His Care, There is no other way

To arrive at Heaven’s Gates high above

Than through our Repentance and His Forgiveness, Our Invitation is a part of God’s Love

Heaven has no back door, There is only one way to enter in

The entry always comes through Forgiveness, And being lifted from our Sin.

JOY FILLED MUSIC by Bill G. Horsley

WHEN THERE IS JOY IN MUSIC, IT LIFTS THE HEART AND FILLS THE SOUL

WHEN THE WORDS UPLIFT THE LORD WE SERVE, MUSIC HELPS TO MAKE US WHOLE

WHEN WILLING HEARTS JOIN WITH TALENT, TO SING SONGS OF HOPE AND GOD FILLED PRAISE

THEY HELP EVEN THE HUNGRIEST HEART TO BE FED, THEY BRING JOY TO OUR DAYS

WHEN WORDS ARE FILLED WITH MEANING, AND MUSICIANS KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORDS

THEY BRING TOGETHER TALENT AND THEIR  WORSHIP, TO BRING FORTH PRAISE TO OUR LIVING LORD

WHEN MUSIC PLEASES THE EAR OF GOD, IT FILLS THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO CAN HEAR

MUSIC IN THE FORM OF PRAISE AND TRUE HONOR, BRING MAN AND GOD NEAR

WHEN THERE IS JOY IN THE MUSIC, WHEN TRUE PRAISE FILLS THE VERY AIR

HUNGRY HEARTS ARE FED WITH TRUE WORSHIP, AND THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS THERE.

  • ATTITUDE & CHARACTER:

ATTITUDE – by Charles R. Swindoll

The single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude. It is more important than my past, my education, my bankroll, my successes or failures, fame or pain, what other people think of me, or say about me, my circumstances, or my position. The attitude I choose, keeps me going or cripples my progress. It alone fuels my fire or assaults my hope. When my attitudes are right, there’s no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme, no challenge too great for me.

A PERSON OF CHARACTER - by Bill G. Horsley

A person of character if different, They always stand out from the crowd

They will neither lie nor cheat nor go astray, No stain upon their reputation is allowed

Integrity is sometimes just a word, One that may be too easily overused

But a person of integrity knows it’s worth, And their word is never abused

A person who holds themselves accountable, And expects the same from each one they meet

Is held in esteem and given honor for their life, By each one that they greet

Responsibility is a trust, One that is sometimes given in vain

But a person who is responsible to other, Will have honor added to their name

Truth must be spoken, If real trust is to be earned

Honesty is still the best policy, A lesson we all need to learn

We are sharers of the world, And are often judged by many others

But a person of character never has to fear judgment, For they treat everyone as sister or brother

A MAN OF CHARACTER - by Bill G. Horsley

A Man of Character is different, He always stand out from the crowd

He will neither lie nor cheat nor go astray, No stain upon his reputation is allowed

Integrity is sometimes just a word, One that may be too easily overused

But a man of integrity knows it’s worth, And his word is never abused

A man who holds themselves accountable, And expects the same from each one he meet

Is held in esteem and given honor for his life, By each one that he greet

Responsibility is a trust, One that is sometimes given in vain

But a man who is responsible to others, Will have honor added to his name

Truth must be spoken, If real trust is to be earned

Honesty is still the best policy, A lesson we all need to learn

We are sharers of the world, And are often judged by many others

But a man of character never has to fear, For he treat all men as brother

* OSHA VISIT, INSPECTORS PLEDGE & MORE:

OSHA VISIT

We received a phone call earlier today, The soldiers of safety are coming our way

The call came through loud and clear, OSHA is now on their way over here

Workers are scurrying from front to back, While the boss is having a heart attack

He know that his job is really on the line, Especially if we get a willful violation fine

A loose wire needs to be fastened tight, And housekeeping didn’t do their job last night

One fire extinguisher hasn’t been regularly checked, This place is beginning to look like a total wreck

One guy is off in the hospital anyhow, From catching his hand in a machine somehow

Someone misplaced some needed safety gear, No safety classes have been documented this year

The boss is screaming and yelling at everyone, To Hurry it up and to get the safety done

When OSHA shows up with credentials in hand, He knows that he will be marked man

OSHA will have a field day with all this mess, And all of us will know the strain and the stress

But we can’t catch up the safety violations now, We know that it is really far too late anyhow.

And the worst part of it is that we now know, This had to happened when we let safety practices go

If we had practiced safety procedure everyday, OSHA would have nothing but praise to say

Too late for now this lesson we have learned, When safety is lax, everyone gets burned.

SANTA’S SAFETY HINTS – by Bill G. Horsley

Santa is very aware of safety, As he loads toys upon his sleigh

He always lifts from the knees, To make heavy lifting a breeze

Before going Ho-Ho-Hoing on his way

Santa gathered his elves around, To give a lecture on safety and care

He spoke of the hazards of snow, About watching for sure footing below

And all the other winter hazards out there.

Santa has his magic reindeer, To pull his sleigh through the sky

But even high in the night air, you have to stay alert and aware

And always watch out for the other guy.

Santa knows the danger, Even when you’re out seeking a gift

If you don’t watch for the snow and ice, You’ll find it is never very nice

To wind up stuck in a snow drift

Santa knows winter hazards, That can bring danger and harm

He knows it is best to go slow, through winter ice and snow

And always remember to dress warm

Santa knows even little things, can cause someone pain and hurt

Paper cuts are small, But they hurt after all

So stay safe and alert

Santa wishes you a Merry Christmas, And to all he wishes a safe Christmas night

Practice safety in all that you do, And your accidents will be few

For safety and Santa are always right.
